The much-awaited film, Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is set to be released in two installments, slated for 2026 and 2027. This grand cinematic adaptation of the ancient epic is expected to be a visual spectacle, along with powerful performances and breathtaking visuals. The film has already generated a lot of buzz due to its exciting cast, which features some of the biggest names in the industry.
Reports suggest that Ranbir Kapoor will portray the iconic role of Lord Ram, while Sai Pallavi has been cast as Sita. Adding to the excitement, Yash, who gained fame through his role in KGF, will play the powerful and villainous Ravana. In addition, Sunny Deol will take on the role of Lord Hanuman. Among the many names circulating for the film’s cast, there is another actress whose inclusion has created a stir – Shobana.
While the filmmakers have yet to make an official announcement, reports suggest that Shobana will play the role of Ravana’s mother, a character known for her complexity in the epic. If the rumours are true, her portrayal will be a powerful addition to the star cast of the film.
Shobana is a highly respected actress in the cinema, particularly in Malayalam, Telugu, and Tamil films. Over the years, she has earned numerous accolades, including two National Film Awards and the prestigious Padma Bhushan, which she received in 2025. Known for her versatility, Shobana’s career took off at a young age, having started as a child artist. In 1985, she acted in 16 films within a single year. In a career of over four decades, the actress has starred in 230 films across several languages. The actress has shared screen space with legendary actors like Chiranjeevi, Mammootty and Mohan Lal.
In addition to acting, Shobana is a talented Bharatanatyam dancer and has even opened her own dance school in 1989. While she remains unmarried, she became a single mother in 2011 when she adopted a daughter. If Shobana’s role in Ramayana is confirmed, it will undoubtedly be another milestone in her remarkable career.
