Sakshi Tanwar‘s journey exemplifies how a single moment can alter one’s destiny. After graduating from Lady Shri Ram College in Delhi, she was preparing for the civil services, aiming to fulfill her father’s aspiration of her becoming an IAS officer. However, a friend’s phone call informed her about auditions for Doordarshan’s music program Albela Sur Mela. Seizing the opportunity, she auditioned and was selected as the show’s presenter in 1998, marking her entry into the entertainment industry.

Sakshi Tanwar received her big break in 2000 with Ekta Kapoor’s hit show Kahaani Ghar Ghar Kii, where she portrayed Parvati Agarwal. Later, from 2011 to 2014, she once again captivated audiences by playing Priya Kapoor, alongside Ram Kapoor in Bade Ache Lagte Hain.

For the unversed, Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar gained significant attention for an intimate scene between the two, which included a kiss- a rarity on Indian television at the time. This scene which aired in 2012, was considered groundbreaking and sparked widespread discussion among audiences and within the industry.

The scenes’ broadcast led to mix of reactions, with some viewers appreciating the portrayal of a mature relationship, while others felt it uncomfortable watching it with family. In an interview, Ram Kapoor admitted that despite his resistance, Ekta Kapoor wanted to go further with the scene. Speaking about the aftermath, Kapoor admitted the bold move hurt the show’s ratings. In 2017, Ekta addressed the issue and revealed how the kissing scene had shot the show’s TRP ratings to 2, while the prior ratings were 6 and 5.

Beyond television, Sakshi has become a celebrated figure in both films and OTT. Her film Dangal, where she played Aamir Khan’s wife, remains the highest-grossing films in India, with over Rs 2000 crore in worldwide earnings. Talking about her personal life, Tanwar is unmarried and single. At the age of 45, she adopted a baby girl named Dityaa, and two now live together in Mumbai.
