This actress and politician, who is known for her works majorly in Telugu cinema and Hindi cinema as well as in Tamil films in late ’70s, ’80s and early ’90s, made her acting debut at the age of just 13 and was paid Rs 10 for her first film. She performed a dance at her school’s annual function and a film director in the audience offered her a three-minute dance number in the Telugu film Bhoomi Kosam (1974). She was hesitant, but her family encouraged her to accept it. After her three-minute dance, major filmmakers noticed her and offered roles. She became a huge star in 1976 with major hit films.
The actress was introduced in Bollywood with Sargam movie. The film was successful and she became a star in Hindi industry. She earned her first Filmfare nomination as Best Actress but couldn’t capitalise on her success since she couldn’t speak Hindi.
She did several Hindi films with top actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Rakesh Roshan, Rishi Kapoor, and Jeetendra. We are talking about Jaya Prada.
Pradaa is considered the most beautiful actress that Indian cinema has ever been blessed with. Even Satyajit Ray used to say that she had “the most beautiful face on the Indian screen.”
Despite being blessed with a successful career, she had a rather difficult personal life. In 1985, she was the highest-paid actress and every producer’s first choice. It was that time when she came under the radar of Income Tax Department and it was her close friend and produce Srikant Nahata who helped her.
Their friendship turned into love and at that time Srikant was already a married man with three kids. Jaya Prada was labelled as ‘the other woman’ in Srikant and Chandra Nahata’s life.

In February 1986, Jaya Prada married producer Srikanth Nahata. Their marriage quickly became controversial because Nahata never divorced his first wife and even had a third child with her after marrying Jaya Prada. He refused to divorce Chandra which created bitterness in his relationship with Jaya Prada, and eventually, their marriage ended.
Along with personal struggles, she also faced being sidelined by filmmakers. As a result, she left the film industry at the peak of her career and joined politics in 1994. She later served as a Member of Parliament (MP) from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh, from 2004 to 2014.
