Moon Moon Sen rose to fame with her glamorous presence on the big screen. As the daughter of legendary Bengali actress Suchitra Sen, she grew up around the world of cinema, often accompanying her mother to film sets. So, when se decided to step into acting it was no surprise. What did surprise many people, was her decision to continue acting even after marriage and motherhood, which was rare thing at that time.
Before entering films, Moon Moon Sen worked as a model and appeared in numerous commercials, some of which stirred controversy at that time. She acted in several Bengali films, including Chorus and Rajbadhu, before making her Bollywood debut in 1984 with Anand Baaha, where she starred alongside Anil Kapoor.
Moon Moon Sen’s striking on-screen presence and glamorous persona quickly grabbed attention, making her a popular name in the industry. But, her acting skills and bold performances often faced criticism from a section of fans and critics. Comparisons with her mother Suchitra Sen, seemed to be inevitable for the actress. Despite the scrutiny, she continued to carve her own niche and embraced roles with her unique charm and persona.
Moon Moon Sen also worked in South Indian languages films, marking her Telugu debut with the 1986 release Sirivennela. A year later, she featured in blockbuster film Majnu opposite Akkineni Nagarjuna. She also starred in several Kannada, Telugu and Tamil movies.

In the Hindi film industry, the actress has starred in several films with superstars like with Sridevi, Jackie Shroff, Poonam Dhillon, Vinod Khanna and Madhuri Dixit. Some of her work include Pathar Ke Insan (1985), Jaal (1986) and Ajantay (1984), 100 Days (1991) and more.
After a successful acting career, Moon Moon Sen ventured into politics by joining Mamta Banerjee’s All India Trinamool Congress. Her daughters, Raima and Riya Sen, are actresses too. His husband Bharat Dev Varma passed away on November 19, 2024, at his home in Kolkata. He was a descendant of the erstwhile royal family of Tripura.
