But the story of actress Mayoori Kango, who made the journey from Bollywood to the boardroom, is completely different. Mayoori, who gained recognition from Mahesh Bhatt’s film ‘Papa Kehte Hain’ and its famous song ‘Ghar Se Nikalte Hi’, said goodbye to the industry while being at the peak of her career and chose a corporate career. After holding the top position in Google India, she has now taken another big leap.

Mayoori Kango who has made a name for herself in the corporate world, has once again made headlines. After leaving her job at Google, she is now touching new heights by becoming the CEO of Publicis Groupe’s Global Delivery (PGD).

Mayoori Kango’s story is no less than a film script. Her mother was a famous theatre artist and while spending time with her mother in Mumbai, she met director Saeed Akhtar Mirza. Saeed Akhtar Mirza offered her a role in his film ‘Naseem’ in 1995. As her 12th class exams were approaching, she rejected the offer, but later she decided to work in the film.

The film managed to win two National Awards for Best Direction and Best Screenplay. Her performance in the film won the heart of Mahesh Bhatt, who offered her the lead role in his 1996 film ‘Papa Kehte Hain’. The film was average at the box office, but Mayoori’s acting was highly appreciated. She then worked in films like ‘Betaabi’, ‘Hogi Pyar Ki Jeet’ (alongside Ajay Devgn), ‘Vanshi’ (alongside Mahesh Babu) and ‘Badal’ (alongside Bobby Deol and Rani Mukerji). She also worked in TV shows like ‘Kya Hadsa Kya Haqeeqat’, ‘Karishma’, ‘Kkusum’ and ‘Rangoli’.

Quit acting at peak, chose a different profession

When her acting career was at its peak, Mayoori decided to leave everything and choose a completely different path. In 2003, she married an NRI Aditya Dhillon and moved to the US, where she decided to pursue her studies. She earned an MBA degree in Marketing and Finance from Baruch College in New York in 2007.

Mayoori’s first job

Her first job was as an Associate Media Manager at an American digital marketing company called 360i. Subsequently, in 2009, she became a supervisor at Resolution Media in New York and then as Associate Director (Media) at Digitas in 2010. In 2012, Mayoori returned to India and worked for five years as Chief Digital Officer at Zenith. After this, she became Managing Director at Performics of Publicis Groupe.

In 2019, Mayoori took a big step as Industry Head-Agency Partnerships at Google India, where she handled partnerships with the world’s leading advertising networks. In August 2024, she further expanded her role at Google, where she became the Industry Head of AI, Martech, and Media Solutions @MPT.

On 25 August 2025, Mayoori Kango shared a post on her LinkedIn profile and announced her new responsibility. She wrote- ‘I am happy to be joining Publicis Groupe again, this time as part of the Global Executive Leadership Team. In this role, I will shape media, tech and digital solutions at the global level and strengthen the AI ​​practice. I will also work as the CEO of the India Delivery Center.’
