Over the years, several actresses have made their mark in the Hindi film industry after winning prestigious beauty pageants. Actresses like Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sushmita Sen, Priyanka Chopra and Lara Dutta are prime examples of how pageant titles have paved the way for successful acting careers. Joining this esteemed list is Manushi Chhillar, who transitioned into Bollywood after winning Miss World in 2017.

Manushi made history in November 2017 by becoming the sixth Indian woman to win the Miss World title. Following that, she made her Bollywood debut in the 2022 historical drama Samrat Prithviraj, alongside Akshay Kumar. Helmed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the film was made on a massive budget of Rs 220 crore and turned out to be a box office flop after grossing Rs 68.25 crore in India.

Manushi’s second film The Great Indian family also failed to make an impact both commercially as well as critically. Made on a budget of Rs 40 crore, the film also starred Vicky Kaushal and earned just Rs 5 crore domestically.

In 2024, Manushi had two other releases, both of them failed to perform well at the box office. She made her Telugu debut with Varun Tej in action thriller Operation Valentine. The Shakti Pratap Singh Hada directorial managed to gross just Rs 8 crore in India. She also starred in Ali Abbas Zafar’s Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Made on a hefty budget of Rs 350 crore, the film earned only Rs 51 crore, hence been declared as a big box office flop. The action-packed film also starred Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff, Sonakshi Sinha, and Alaya F.

Looking ahead, Manushi is set to star in the highly anticipated thriller Tehran, which also stars John Abraham. Directed by debutant Arun Gopalan and bankrolled by Dinesh Vijan, the upcoming geopolitical thriller is based on true events, set against the backdrop of the Russia-Ukraine war.
