Chandrika Tandon, a Chennai-born Indian-American businesswoman and musician, won a Grammy at the 67th Annual Grammy awards. The 71-year-old earned the prestigious honour in the Best New Age, Ambient or Chant Album category for her album Triveni, which features a captivating fusion of ancient chants and world music.

According to musicacademy.org, Chandrika has earned several prestigious awards for her integrity and leadership, including the Gallatin Medal, the Walter Nichols Medal, and the Polytechnic Meda. Her first-full length album Soul Call (2009), was also nominated for Best Contemporary World Music Album at the Grammys in 2011. Moreover, Americans for the Arts announced her as the 2018 recipient of the BCA leadership Award.

As a composer and vocalist, she has been trained in Hindustani, Carnatic, and Western music traditions, blending these influences into her work. Her Grammy-awarded album Triveni is a collaboration with African flautist Wouter Kellerman and Japanese cellist Eru Matsumoto. It is a seven-track album created as a meditative journey to promote ‘inner healing.’

Chandrika was nominated this year alongside some leading names, including producer Ricky Kej, sitar player Anoushka Shankar, and Indian-origin British artist Radhika Vekaria.
