This Indian filmmaker made films like Bandit Queen and Mr. India, and today (6 December) he turned 79. He was born in Lahore in 1975. Many know him because he is the nephew of superstar Dev Anand. Born in Shekhar Kapur this filmmaker used to be a chartered accountant in London. The film took no time to dominate at the box office which eventually became the turning point for Anil Kapoor he even got a new flight with this film. For the unversed, Anil Kapoor had forcefully asked for work in the song ‘Kaate Nahi Katte Ye Din Ye Raat’ from this film.

Shekhar Kapur, the director of the film, is one of India’s most respected filmmakers. He was honored with the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India in 2000 and won the Golden Globe Award in 1998 for his outstanding contributions to cinema.
