In 1991, a talented Pakistani actress made her debut in the film Henna opposite Rishi Kapoor. Produced and directed by Randhir Kapoor, the movie was originally planned by Raj Kapoor, however, before its production began, he passed away leaving his son Randhir Kapoor in charge. Henna, considered to be Raj Kapoor’s last film, turned out to be a commercial success. Actress Zeba Bakhtiar rose to fame following its release.
Before venturing into movies, Zeba was already an established actress in Pakistan. However, after Henna marked her Bollywood debut, she became a quite name in India as well. The movie made her an overnight star and created further opportunities.
Zeba later featured in KC Bokadia’s Mohabbat Ki Arzoo. The 1994-release once again saw pairing of Zeba and Rishi Kapoor. The movie didn’t perform well at the box office. Later, she starred in films like like Stuntman (1994), Jai Vikraanta (1995) and Muqadama (1996). She also shared screen space with Sanjay in Jai Vikranta. The movie was a box office hit, but Sanjay Dutt ran away with all the credit.
After Henna, Zeba’s career did not see much growth. She decided to go back to Pakistan. In 1995, she appeared in Syed Noor’s Sargam. She also signed up films like Chief Sahib, Qaid and Musalman. In 2001, she turned producer and director for the film Babu. She also produced 2014-released Mission 021.
For the unversed, Zeba belongs to a powerful Pakistani family. She is the daughter of Yahya Bakhtia, a lawyer, politician and pre-Independence Muslim league activist. Apart from her professional life, she was quite in limelight for her personal life too.
Zeba has been married 4 times. Her first husband was Salman Valliani whom she married in the year 1985. She then married to Indian actor Jaaved Jafferi in 1989 and got divorce after one year. Then, she married singer and music composer Adnan Sami. The couple got divorced in 1997. Their marriage grabbed major limelight at that time. They also have a son named Azaan Sami Khan. In 2009, Zeba married Pakistani politician Sohail Khan Leghari, with whom she got separated the following year.
