The Lyricist Shared His Story

In a candid conversation with Local 18, AM Turaz reportedly shared insights into his journey from a small village in Muzaffarnagar to becoming one of the cinema’s most celebrated songwriters. AM Turaz, who has always been passionate about films, mentioned that his decision to move to Mumbai was driven by his dream to make a mark in the film industry, despite the challenges he faced coming from a small village.

After convincing his family and overcoming numerous obstacles, he moved to the city of dreams and began writing for films in 1999. Later, he carved out a unique identity for himself in the music world. His iconic and beloved songs continue to capture the hearts of listeners and remain timeless anthems.

He Said That The Older Songs Were More Enriching

When asked about the evolution of songs in our film industry, he apparently reflected on the changes in song length and structure over the years. He observed that, in the past, songs were much longer, telling stories with more depth. Today, however, the demand for shorter songs has led to a quicker, more immediate connection with audiences.

Still, he firmly believes that the older songs were more enriching and better crafted, offering a more nuanced musical experience. He also weighed in on the influence of rap and contemporary music in today’s songs, noting that these influences are not part of our traditional culture but have been adopted from the west. While he emphasized that he doesn’t criticize these genres, he stressed the importance of remembering and nurturing our own cultural roots.

AM Turaz began his career in 2005, writing for television, and later transitioned to film. His first major film assignment was as a lyricist for Kudiyon Ka Hai Zamana in 2006. Over the years, he has penned memorable songs like Ghoomar, Binte Dil, and Khalibali from Padmaavat, along with Tum Na Aaye, Aayat, and Kabhi Jo Baadal Barse.
