Known as the ‘first female superstar’ of Indian cinema, Sridevi was a recipient of the National Film Award. Her last movie, Mom, marked her 300th film. In this psychological thriller, she played a mother seeking revenge for her daughter’s rape. The film also starred Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Akshaye Khanna, and Pakistani actors Sajal Aly and Adnan Siddiqui. Sajal is often referred to as Sridevi’s ‘third daughter’ in Bollywood due to their strong bond. Their close relationship was evident both on and off-screen, and after watching the film, many believed they shared a real mother-daughter connection.
Sridevi first met Sajal for work, but their bond grew so strong that she introduced Sajal to the media as her third daughter. Sajal not only played her daughter on-screen but also shared a mother-daughter relationship with her off-screen. At the time, Sridevi was 53, and Sajal was 23. During the film’s promotions, the late actress told the media, “Sajal is like my third child. Now, I feel I have one more daughter.”
Sridevi passed away in 2018 while she was in Dubai for a family wedding. As soon as Sajal heard the news, she said, “I am in a state of shock right now. It feels like losing my mother again.” She had lost her biological mother to cancer in 2017.
