In ever-evolving world of cinema, some actors defy age norms, embracing roles that challenge traditional boundaries. One such veteran actor, known for his romantic hero image in the golden era of Bollywood, recently made headlines by sharing a passionate on-screen kiss in his later years. This unexpected scene stirred discussions among fans and critics alike, highlighting the actor’s enduring charm and willingness to explore unconventional roles.
Here we are talking about legendary superstar Dharmendra, who, at the age of 87, shared a heartfelt kiss with Shabana Azmi in the 2023 film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, helmed by Karan Johar. In the movie, Dharmendra portrays the grandfather of Ranveer Singh’s character, while Shabana Azmi plays the grandmother of Alia Bhatt’s character. Their characters, once young lovers, are reunited by their grandchildren, rekindling a romance that transcends time. The kissing scene, though brief, became a focal point of the film’s narrative, which stirred controversy on their scene.
This wasn’t the first time Dharmendra broke age-related stereotypes. In the 2007 film Life in a… Metro, helmed by Anurag Basu, he shared an intimate moment with actress Nafisa Ali, which was also well-received by many but stirred a huge controversy because it defied traditional expectations of senior actors in Indian cinema. At the time, many were surprised to see a veteran star in his 70s take on such an intimate scene, especially with another senior actress. While some critics and sections of the audience found the scene bold and unconventional, others praised it for breaking age-related taboos and portraying romance in later years with dignity.
Dharmendra’s personal life has always drawn public interest alongside his illustrious film career. Born in Punjab in 1935, he married Prakash Kaur at a young age, and the couple had four children, including two daughters, Ajeeta Deol, and Vijeta Deol and two sons, Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol. Later, Dharmendra fell in love with actress Hema Malini during the 1970s while working together in several films. Despite being already married, he wed Hema Malini in 1980 through a religious ceremony, without divorcing his first wife. With Hema, he has two daughters, Esha and Ahana Deol.
As of 2025, Dharmendra’s estimated net worth is around Rs 450 crore. His wealth comes from decades of successful acting in Bollywood, film production, endorsements, and property investments. He also owns farmland and other assets, and his legacy includes not just financial success but a massive contribution to Indian cinema.
