We are talking about Natasha Poonawalla, a style icon, wife of Adar Poonawalla, the CEO of the Serum Institute of India, and the Chairman of Poonawalla Fincorp. She is long been a significant figure in India’s business, social, and philanthropic circles.
As Chairperson of Poonawalla Fincorp and the Villoo Poonawalla Foundation, Natasha Poonawalla holds a significant position in both business and philanthropy. She also serves as Executive Director of the Serum Institute of India (SII), the largest vaccine manufacturer globally by volume. In addition to her corporate leadership, Natasha is widely celebrated for her philanthropic work, particularly in the fields of healthcare, education, and the arts. Known for her daring and avant-garde fashion sense, she frequently captures media attention, solidifying her reputation as a formidable figure in both the business world and the fashion industry.
Natasha Poonawala is from Pune. Born on November 26, 1981, she attended St. Mary’s School and later pursued her undergraduate degree at the University of Pune before moving to London to complete her Master’s degree at the London School of Economics in 2004.
In 2006, Natasha Poonawalla married Adar Poonawalla, the heir to one of India’s most influential business families. As of October 2024, Adar Poonawalla’s estimated net worth is to be around $16.3 billion (approximately Rs 136,000 crore). Whereas, Natasha’s net worth is Rs 660 crore, as per reports. The couple first met at a New Year’s Eve party hosted by business magnate Vijay Mallya in Goa, and they now have two sons, Cyrus and Darius. While Adar manages the operations of the Serum Institute of India, Natasha has carved out her path as a prominent philanthropist and socialite. She oversees the Villoo Poonawalla Foundation, the family’s charitable organization named in honour of her mother-in-law, contributing to various causes in healthcare, education, and more.
They live in Rs 750 crore Lincoln House. For the unversed, it is a Grade-III listed mansion which was designed by British architect, Claude Batley, in 1933. Originally built for the Maharaja of Wankaner, HH Sir Amarsinhji Banesinhji and his son Pratapsinhji Jhala, in 1957, the property’s ownership went to the US Government on a lease. The maharaja leased his palace for a nominal amount of 18 lakh, on the condition of a ‘lease of perpetuity for 999 years’. The mansion served as the Consulate General of the United States in Mumbai.
