Megastar Chiranjeevi, Veteran Actor Vyjayanthimala Conferred With Padma Vibhushan

South India’s megastar Chiranjeevi and  veteran actor Vyjayanthimala on Thursday (May 9, 2024) was conferred with Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian award by India’s president Droupadi Murmu. The event took place in Delhi at Darbar Hall. As both the actors received the award, the hall echoed with applause. To cheer for Chiranjeevi, his wife Surekha, his son Ram Charan and his wife Upasana Konidela were present. 

Chiranjeevi was seen wearing a black suit set as he walked towards President Murmu to receive the award. Later, the camera also panned towards his son Ram Charan, who could be seen beaming with joy. Beside him was seen Ram Charan’s wife Upasana Konidela. On the other hand, the iconic actor Vyjayanthimala was seen wearing a yellow silk saree.

A total of five renowned persons were conferred with the country’s second highest awards including Former Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Vyjayantimala, Chiranjeevi, Sulabh International founder late Bindeshwar Pathak and Bharat Natyam dancer Padma Subrahmanyam. Earlier in January 2024, the official announcement of names was made regarding those who will be conferred with different awards during the ceremony.

For those unversed, just before Republic Day 2024, the government unveiled the recipients of the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri awards. According to the list, 17 individuals honored with Padma Bhushan, five with Padma Vibhushan, and 110 recipients of the Padma Shri.
