MS Dhoni’s biopic gets banned in Pakistan following MNS threats to beat up Pakistani artists

In an obvious turn of events, Pakistan has refused to release the MS Dhoni biopic following the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) threats. The Dhoni biopic starring Sushant Singh Rajput is one of the most anticipated Bollywood release this year, but distributor across the border has refused to go ahead with the release of the biopic in Pakistan. Both the country on the either side of LoC has been involved in intense war of words after the terror attack at Uri.

According to a report published in tabloids, IMGC Global Entertainment, a Pakistan-based distribution company was initially supposed to  release MS Dhoni The Untold Story in Pakistan, but looks like they have decided not to bring the movie to the country. “Amid current tension between the two countries, we have decided not to release the film.” said the chairman of the company.

Directed by Neeraj Pandey, MS Dhoni The Untold Story is scheduled to release on 30th September  2016 in over 4500 screens worldwide. The tensed situations following the threats by MNS has certainly given rise to discord between India and Pakistan. After the Uri terror attack on September 18, Raj Thackeray-led MNS called for ban and threatened Pakistani artists living in India to go back to their country. Pakistani performers Fawad Khan, Ali Zafar, Mahira Khan and comedian Shakeel Siddiqui came under the MNS scanner. The artists have been in involved with their own projects in Bollywood, but are going through unexpected circumstances because of the growing discord between both the nations. MNS has also been protesting against Karan Johar’s latest directorial Ae Dil Hai Mushkil  and Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming Raees which stars Fawad and Mahira respectively. Also, a petition was filed at Lahore High Court on September 23 demanding a ban on all the Bollywood releases in Pakistan until Kashmir’s issue is resolved. The PIL filed by lawyer Azhar Saddique claims that if Bollywood movie are run in local cinemas in Pakistan, it will ‘hurt sentiments of the people in Pakistan and Kashmir’.
