The film, which is a prequel to Baby, hasn’t received rave reviews from critics so far but all have called it a decent attempt. In Akshay Kumar’s words, Naam Shabana is the first Indian film of its kind since it focuses on the making of a spy. No two ways about the film’s plot being very interesting. But will it keep the audience gripped is what remains to be seen. And while we await the reactions to the film after it releases tomorrow, here is something that cannot be ignored. Reviews apart, the film is already laudable. Taapsee Pannu’s Naam Shabana has a lot to say about how Bollywood is changing – for the better. Here are three aspects of the film that point towards the fact that women centric films are just going to become a bigger trend in Bollywood! Female lead
What’s so unique about this you ask? Taapsee is not just playing the female lead in the film, she is in fact the only lead in the film. Yes, the film is not devoid of presence of some very strong male actors, in fact it has superstar Akshay Kumar starring in it too, but his role is reduced to a cameo. The focus is solely on Taapsee and her character! Also Read - Police Deployed Outside Amitabh Bachchan's House After Congress Leader's 'Black Flag' Call

Betting money on a woman
Naam Shabana actress Taapsee Pannu recently attended the India Today Women’s conclave where she was asked a rather interesting question. (ALSO READ: Naam Shabana movie review: Watch it for Taapsee Pannu’s brilliance and a bit of good ‘ol Baby nostalgia)

A woman from the audience asked the actress, “It an Akshay Kumar film, where a woman (Taapsee) is throwing the punches. What was the thought process and how did you arrive at the idea…” To this, Taapsee replied, “Akshay Kumar is not just a small part of the film Naam Shabana but he is also the producer of the film. So he is betting his money on me.” A film starring a female lead and bankrolled by a male superstar itself says a lot about how our reigning stars are ready to take a backseat and let the women bask in the arc lights. With this we can only hope that seasoned directors and producers take a cue and bring out more women-centric films.

Doing the impossible
At the same event, Taapsee also mentioned that while she was training to deliver the punches in Naam Shabana, Akshay Kumar – the real action star was making way for her. Yes, he did make way for a character that can show the world that women are as strong as men and can work on an equal footing. Naam Shabana is one of those rare films that show a woman in a career where you won’t really imagine a woman. Most of Bollywood films either do not show women as career oriented and if they do, their vocation is limited to being glamorous. They will be fashion or interior designers, models or actors, architects or doctors! The other fields are reserved for the boys! But not anymore. With Naam Shabana, the makers have made the female protagonist tread a different path and do the impossible. (ALSO READ: Not only Taapsee Pannu, but now Naam Shabana makers are planning more spin offs on characters of Akshay Kumar’s Baby)

Naam Shabana does deserve to be celebrated and we hope women and men watch the film and get inspired. We also hope that Bollywood too gets motivated to show women in roles that are not only strong as far as the concept is concerned but physically too!
