Nayanthara Emphaises on Empowering Women
Nayanthara’s 75th film, “Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food,” tackled the challenges women face while pursuing their dreams. Though the film faced controversy on Netflix India, it was praised for its portrayal of female strength.
In her address at the Most Influential Young Indians awards, she spoke to the publication, Nayanthara added, “Portraying empowered women who choose to defy social stigmas is not just a creative choice, but also a personal commitment to amplifying voices that are often overlooked or silenced (sic).”
Nayanthara has shifted gears in recent years, moving from commercial films to projects that tackle social issues. In 2017, she took on a powerful role as a district collector in “Aramm.” The following year, she showcased her versatility with a crime comedy “Kolamaavu Kokila” and a cop drama “Imaikkaa Nodigal.” Her latest film, “Annapoorani: The Goddess of Food,” sees her portraying an aspiring chef. This trend continues with her upcoming projects, including “Test,” “Mannangatti Since 1960,” and the Malayalam film “Dear Students.”
In addition to acting, Nayanthara has ventured into film production alongside her husband Vignesh Shivan. Their banner, Rowdy Pictures, has backed successful Tamil films like Netrikann and Koozhangal. They even ventured into Gujarati cinema with Shubh Yatra in 2013. Recently, Nayanthara and Vignesh launched a new skincare line, 9Skin, which prioritizes nourishing the skin for overall well-being rather than just superficial appearance.
