Mahabharat Gets Re-telecast on Doordarshan amid coronavirus lockdown and netizens compare its TRP with online streaming apps.

The iconic mythological show BR Chopra’s Mahabharat has returned to our television screens along with Ramayan and netizens are rejoicing with nostalgia. Making Mahabharat the top trends on Twitter this morning, many shared hilarious memes and video-pictures of the show being re-telecast on their television screens. Many users even pointed out that online streaming apps such as Netflix, Hotstar and Amazon Prime are having a tough competition from Doordarshan.

One user tweeted, “Call me a bhakt, which I am, of this most prolific epic in the world #महाभारत B R Chopra recreated ‘Mahabharat’ on TV for everyone of us in 90s. #21daysLockdown is turning as time for our soul searching also. #Ramayan #Mahabharata.” (sic)

The show will be telecast in daily,12 pm and 7pm. Taking to Twitter, I&B Minister Prakash Javadekar announced the comeback of the show and wrote, “Happy to announce that DD Bharati will relay from tomorrow Saturday 28th March, the popular serial ‘Mahabharat’ at 12 noon and 7 pm every day.” (sic)

The show that aired its first episode on October 2, 1988, was emerged as the popular TV show of the ‘90s and went on till June 24, 1990.
