From Dil Chahta Hai to Zindgai Na Milegi Dobara, there are several iconic films that have beautifully portrayed the essence of true friendship on-screen. Today, we will talk about a Malayalam film based on the same concept, who has won the hearts of audiences across. The film we are talking about is Manjummel Boys.

Written and directed by Chidambaram, this Malayalam movie is based on the true story of 11 friends from the titular town of Kerala. Their trip to Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, takes a harrowing turn when one of them falls into the Guna caves, putting them in a life-or-death situation.

Manjummel Boys is based on the real incident happened in 2006. The role of the eleven friends are portrayed by Soubin Shahir, Sreenath Bhasi, Balu Varghese, Ganapathi S. Poduval, Lal Jr., Deepak Parambol, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, Arun Kurian, Khalid Rahman Shebin Benson, and Vishnu Reghu.

Made on a budget of Rs 20 crore, the survival thriller earned Rs 141 crore net in India and grossed Rs 242 crore worldwide. It earned widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics, ultimately becoming a blockbuster. Moreover, it is only Malayalam movie till date to earn Rs 200 crore, thus becoming the highest-grossing film in its language.

Over two months after shattering several box office records, Manjummel Boys premiered on Disney + Hotstar in May. It was available in original Malayalam version as well as dubbed versions in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Kannada. Helmed by Chidambaram, the film was produced by
Soubin Shahir, Babu Shahir and Shawn Antony under their banner Parava Films.
