Veteran superstar Hema Malini has been married to megastar Dharmendra since 1980. While it was Hema Malini’s first marriage, it was Dharmendra’s second. The couple, who have been married for decades, has two children – Esha Deol and Ahana Deol. Although Hema Malini and Dharmendra share a happy marriage, there was a time when Hema Malini was all set to marry another superstar, who even visited her home to ask her mother for her hand in marriage. However, things went awry when a demand from the superstar’s mother disrupted the proposal, leading Hema Malini and her mother to reject the offer.
This superstar was the legendary Sanjeev Kumar, renowned for portraying older characters with remarkable depth in Bollywood. Despite his success, his personal life was marked by heartbreak. Kumar proposed to Hema Malini during the filming of Sholay, but she turned him down, which led him to remain single for life.

Hema Malini and Sanjeev Kumar grew close during the shooting of Seeta aur Geeta, and their love blossomed. Sanjeev took no time to visit Hema’s home with his family to propose marriage. However, his mother made a demand that changed everything. She insisted Hema Malini should stop working in films after marriage, which Hema and her mother did not agree to.
During the filming of Sholay, Sanjeev Kumar reportedly proposed again to Hema, unaware that she was already in a relationship with Dharmendra. That broke his heart and he remained single.
Eerily, Sanjeev had predicted his early death, stating that he wouldn’t live past 50, just like the men in his family. Tragically, this prediction came true when he passed away at 47 from a heart attack in 1985, leaving behind an enduring cinematic legacy.
