Mumbai, often called the city of dreams, has been home to countless aspiring actors who either rise to fame or fade into obscurity. Among them is Bobby Darling, once a recognisable face in films and television, who today lives a life far removed from the glitter of showbiz.
Bobby, born Pankaj Sharma and later transitioning to Pakhi Sharma, made her Bollywood debut with small yet memorable roles. Today, however, she is rarely seen in films, serials, or public events. Fans mostly catch up with her through her social media, where she shares travel and personal updates. With age, health concerns, and recent cosmetic procedures like a hair transplant, her appearance has also changed drastically, making it difficult for many to recognise her.
Bobby Darling was first noticed in Subhash Ghai’s musical hit Taal (1999), where she played Aishwarya Rai’s designer. Despite the brief screen time, her quirky presence caught attention. This opened the doors to more roles in films like Kyaa Kool Hain Hum, Apna Sapna Money Money, and Style.
Her role as “Bobby Mohabbati” in Apna Sapna Money Money especially made her a household name. She showcased impeccable comic timing and became known for her unique screen presence. Later, she was seen in Phir Tauba Tauba, Dil Ne Jise Apna Kaha, Hasee Toh Phasee, Saturday Night, and Super Model.
Alongside films, Bobby also appeared in popular TV shows such as Sasural Simar Ka and Aahat, though mostly in supporting roles.
Despite appearing in well-known projects, Bobby’s career never really took off in the way she had hoped. In several interviews, she admitted struggling for work, even approaching established stars for opportunities. When acting offers dried up, she even had to take up dancing in bars to make ends meet.
Her personal life also made headlines. In 2016, she married businessman Ramanik Sharma, but the marriage soon turned sour. A year later, Bobby accused her husband of domestic violence, unnatural relations, and physical assault. Following her complaint, police arrested him, and the marriage ended in divorce. The scandal pushed her further away from the entertainment industry.
Currently, Bobby lives a relatively quiet life, away from mainstream Bollywood. She shares glimpses of her daily activities and travels through Instagram, where her loyal fan base continues to support her. Although she is no longer in the acting limelight, she remains an unforgettable name for those who followed her during her peak years.
Her journey, from being Bollywood’s first openly transgender actor to facing personal and professional struggles—remains a reflection of the hardships many artists endure in the film industry.
