Sunny Leone has starred in quite a few Bollywood and south Indian movies and item songs now, but she is still referred to by many as ‘that pornstar from Canada’. In Bollywood, she has more or less acted in movies with sexual content or where she had to show off her hot bod and her moves. One Night Stand the movie was also promoted as an A-rated sleazy film, but that, it is definitely NOT! And that comes as a pleasant surprise. One Night Stand reminds one of the George Clooney film Up in the Air where he has a one-night stand with a woman on a business trip, and falls madly in love with her – only to find out that she is married.
As Sunny Leone told us in our interview with her, the movie One Night Stand is not about the one-night stand between a man and a woman, but about what happens after. So, that’s the moral of the story here – think twice before having a one-night stand, and especially if you are engaged to or committed to someone. In One Night Stand, Sunny Leone plays Celina aka Amber Kapoor, a photographer. Tanuj Virwani is Urvil Raisingh, an event manager and Nyra Banerjee plays his pretty wife Simran. The film begins at an event in Phuket, where Urvil is attracted to Celina right from the beginning. Then, to win a bet, he tries to woo her and in the process, although she is careful, both fall for each other and end up in bed for one night.
Back in Pune, India, Urvil comes home to his wife and is happy. But soon, he begins hallucinating, seeing Celina in every girl he comes across. Promoted at work, Urvil can’t concentrate and tries to find out more about Celina but to no avail. Things change when he bumps into her twice, and can’t get her out of his mind. Learning that she is married, Urvil begins stalking her and lands up in her home. Well, Celina is Mrs Amber Kapoor and a mom, and she is not interested in Urvil anymore. But he is, and ends up messing up his life.
Performances
Sunny Leone is beauty personified, of course. And not just a bombshell, but performs her role of a married woman who went astray well. Sunny tries to redeem herself in Bollywood, and succeeds with One Night Stand. What we liked is that her character Celina aka Amber in One Night Stand is feisty, and does not give in to the obsessive stalking of Urvil. She has that monologue shown in the trailer, and that’s probably the most interesting part of the film.
Newcomer Nyra Banerjee is equally hot – if we are to compare her to the oomph of Sunny Leone – and acts well. Her character Simran is also that of a modern woman who knows what to do if her husband strays – and we like that.
Tanuj Virwani takes to his mother Rati Agnihotri as far as natural acting is concerned – he does not seem one-film old, but has scope for improvement. His character, though, is not etched out well – he is polite, successful, a good guy, and loves his wife. He is not necessarily a male chauvinist but is made out to be because he ends up falling in love with his one-night stand.
Verdict: Nopes, you will not get what you were looking for in this movie. There are no explicit sex scenes in it and no vulgarity. It’s a simple story of an extramarital affair (on both ends) that gets complicated. The message is clear too, with shades of so-called feminist dialogues. SPOILER: And there is no happy ending here, rather an abrupt one – as happens in real life.
Overall, One Night Stand is like a telefilm with good music, pretty faces and beautiful locales / decor. The Jasmine D’souza directorial will not bore you, but has no twists except that one. And like we said, it is not sleazy and thank god for that.
Rating: 3 stars.
