There are several singers in the Bollywood industry who have ventured into acting over time. However, none of them have played the lead role in a film, except for one. If you’re thinking of Himesh Reshammiya, you’re mistaken. The singer we’re talking about today is none other than the legendary Udit Narayan. A four-time National Award winner, Udit has left no stone unturned in entertaining his fans.
Udit Narayan began his career as a playback singer in the 1980s with the film 19-20. He rose to fame with the iconic song Papa Kehte Hain from the film Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. However, his life took a remarkable turn when he appeared as the lead actor in two Nepali films, one of which became a massive hit.
In the film Kusume Rumal, Udit played the lead role, and the movie’s success was unprecedented, with its record remaining unbroken for 15 years. It is considered an all-time classic in Nepali cinema. Udit later starred in another successful Nepali film, Darpan Chaya.
During Indian Idol Season 10, Udit opened up about his acting journey. He revealed that his father was Nepali, and his mother hailed from Bihar. His wife, Deepa Narayan, is also a renowned Nepali folk singer.
While Udit gained recognition as a hero in Nepal, he firmly established himself as a playback singer in India. On the show, Udit shared that singing has always been his true passion.
Over the years, Udit Narayan has delivered numerous hit songs like Pehla Nasha, Ho Gaya Hai Tujhko To, Dil Laga Liya Maine, Bade Miyan Toh Bade Miyan, Sona Kitna Sona Hai, Aaja Mahiya, and many others.
He has sung not only in Hindi but also in Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Bhojpuri, and other languages. For his outstanding contributions to music, Udit was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2009 and the Padma Bhushan in 2016.
