Deepika Padukone–Ranveer Singh–Shahid Kapoor starrer Padmaavat is achieving new milestones with each passing day. The film has gone on to become the first Sanjay Leela Bhansali to surpass the 500 crore mark worldwide. Sources suggest that the film has collected Rs 525 crore worldwide. Meanwhile, on the domestic circuit the film has raked in Rs 3.75 crore on the fourth Sunday since its release taking the total collection over the weekend to Rs 8 crore the total collection of the film so far to Rs 262.63 crore in 25 days. The film was made on a budget of Rs 180 crore with an additional Rs 20 crore spent on converting it into a 3D version. Let’s not forget the film achieved this great feat amidst countless controversies perpetrated by the fringe Rajput outfit called the Karni Sena, that didn’t allow the period drama to release in four major states of India—Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Haryana. With Padmaavat crossing the Rs 500 crore mark, Padmaavat has joined the elite list of films such as Dangal, Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Sultan, Tiger Zinda Hai and Dhoom 3. This has further enabled Deepika, Ranveer and Shahid to enter the big league. The film has become the highest grosser for all three actors and each of their performances have been appreciated by critics and audiences alike. Padmaavat, is a story based on the 16th-century poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s ‘Padmaavat’. According to the narrative, Rani Padmavati, the wife of Maharawal Ratan Singh, who is known for her beauty and valour in 13th century India, captures the fancy of the reigning Sultan of Delhi, the tyrant Alauddin Khilji, who goes to great lengths to fulfil his obsession of having her in his life. The controversial film, whose title was changed from ‘Padmavati’ to ‘Padmaavat’, also stars Aditi Rao Hydari, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad, and Anupriya Goenka feature in supporting roles.
