Sanjay Leela Bhansali‘s film, Padmavati, has found itself amidst a pool of controversy, with the film’s release date pushed to a later date. Now, amid the ongoing protests against the filmmaker requesting for the ban of the film altogether, a police complaint has been filed against ace lyricist Javed Akhtar for having allegedly insulted Rajputs. The FIR has reportedly filed against the legendary lyricist at the Sindhi camp police station in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The complaint comes after Akhtar allegedly passed objectionable comments on the Rajputs who have been protesting the film’s release over its false depiction of Queen Padmavati. In his remark the iconic screen writer had supported Bhansali by reportedly stating that the Rajput Kings had not fought against the Britishers in the last two centuries. Also Read - Katrina Kaif's Intense Training For Salman Khan Starrer Tiger 3's Stunning Action Sequences Is Impressive | Watch

“The Rajputs and the Rajwadas never fought against the British and now they are taking to the streets against a film and a filmmaker. All these ‘ranas’ ‘rajas’ and ‘maharajas’ of Rajasthan were serving in the courts of the British for 200 years. Where did their Rajput honour and valour go that time? They have become what they are since they had accepted to serve the British,” he had said while speaking to a news channel. Needless to say, this remark didn’t go down well with the Rajputs. The complainant who filed the FIR against Akhtar stated that the lyricist insulted the grit and bravery of Rajputs.  (ALSO READ: Deepika Padukone’s Padmavati Postponed To Early Next Year?) Reports indicate that Mahendra Singh Mewar, who is one of the direct descendants of Chittor ruler Rawal Ratan Singh has condemned Akhtar’s remark in an open letter. In the meantime, Shri Rajput Karni Sena’s state president Mahipal Singh Makrana has threatened Akhtar daring him to enter Rajasthan. In a statement to a leading news channel, Makrana said, “Akthar has lost our respect. From now on he is banned in Rajasthan and if he dares we will thrash him on the streets. Rajputs and Rajwadas have sacrificed their lives and he is mocking our history and saying we were serving the British. He does not deserve ‘Padharo Mhare Des’ treatment any more. He speaks a lot in literature festivals and next time we are not going to allow him to even come to Jaipur and speak.” Makrana and his men even reportedly burnt the effigies of the popular lyricist.
