Padmavati Row: Rishi Kapoor Comes Out In Support Of The Film, Feels Protesters Should Be Put Behind Bars

While we are awaiting Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Padmavati to release, the film is at the centre of a political storm in India after protests from the dominant Rajput caste group in the western state of Rajasthan. Padmavati has been hitting the headlines for quite some time now and for all the wrong reasons. What is the problem with the people? While I thought at first that it’s a great thing to have a lot of opinionated people in our country, but after seeing how everyone is voicing their opinions on a film without even having watched it once.

While many celebs have come out in support of the film and have actively spoken against the hooliganism of many fringe groups, now we have Rishi Kapoor’s reaction on it too. In a statement to Hindustan Times, the veteran actor said, “It’s very unfair that people are behaving in such an unruly manner; taking up violence and threatening in an open democracy [about] taking their lives, raising a bounty on their heads. [And that too] in a situation, where you haven’t even seen the film and are still judging it.”

Rishi Kapoor further added, “It’s a democracy and they [protesters] should be put behind bars. It’s like threatening a person with death. I am so sad that police has not taken any [stringent] action yet.” He went on to say that how could one protest without even trying to find out what the content is all about. The actor said, “You don’t know what the content of the film is and you are protesting without any knowledge. How can you do that? You can do all this — of course not violence — you can raise your voice and questions once you have seen the film and after knowing its content. How stupid it is to do all this without even seeing it? ALSO READ: (Padmavati To Be Viewed By CBFC In The Coming Week)

The actor further added, “Even the Supreme Court has said that wait till you see the film. So, I feel that [one should] let the Censor Board take its own decision on whether the material [in the film] is suitable for people’s viewing or not. Who are these goons to bloody judge a case before that?” Don’t you agree with Rishi Kapoor on this? Post your thoughts in the comment section below. Helmed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, the film stars Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor in lead roles. Watch this space for more updates.
