Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra and now Kerala – members of Rajput Karni Sena are in an overdrive, holding protests across the nation. Their only mission is to ensure that Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Padmavati doesn’t hit the theatres. They have however, also demanded that the filmmaker either show them the film to get a clear chit on its release or face a ban. The situation is heating up, with a recent protest in Kota, Rajasthan turning violent. A group of protesters from the Karni sena attacked a movie hall in the city for screening the trailer. In such a scenario, one can only imagine what is in store for theatres when the period film starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh releases on December 1.Also Read - Heeramandi First Look: Sanjay Leela Bhansali To Make His Digital Debut With Netflix Web-Series On 'Where Courtesans Were Queens'
However, to ensure that the film does see light of the day and a smooth release, the Bhansali production house is meeting members of the Rajput group today to clear all their doubts regarding the film’s content. We also hear that if the group isn’t satisfied post the talks, a decision about when and where to host the special pre-release screening will be taken. In a statement to ANI, BJP MLA and head of Film Studio Setting & Allied Majdoor Union, Ram Kadam also confirmed that a decision will be taken by today. “Our union won’t support a person who distorts history for publicity of his film, will demand ban. If Bhansali doesn’t agree, our union won’t let him shoot any film.” With the kinds of protests and the threats of a ban and non-cooperation looming large, Bhansali may not have any choice but to relent to the Rajput groups demand to screen the film and if it all they suggest, delete a few scenes or make some changes. In such scenario, it remains to be seen if Padmavati will be pushed from its decided release date.
