A recent review of the new espionage thriller Dhurandhar sparked strong reactions across Bollywood, but none as sharp as the public rebuke from actor Paresh Rawal. In her review, Anupama Chopra described the film as “exhausting, relentless and frenzied,” criticizing its portrayal of hyper‑masculinity, aggressive nationalism, and anti‑Pakistan narrative. Her bold critique did not sit well with many, but Rawal’s response in particular stirred up a controversy.

What did Paresh Rawal say?

On the social media platform X, he hit back, writing: “Aren’t you tired of being Miss Irrelevant?” That short but scathing remark quickly turned into one of the most talked‑about moments of the day.

According to Anupama’s review, Dhurandhar, directed by Aditya Dhar, known for earlier works, attempts a high‑stakes espionage narrative weaving in real events such as the 2001 Parliament attack, the Kandahar hijack, and 26/11 recordings. She argued that while such elements promise intensity, the execution ends up feeling “dangerous and clunky,” with excessive violence, a heavy dose of testosterone, and an over‑the‑top nationalist tone. For her, the film became “exhausting and relentless,” failing to balance spectacle with substance.

The box office collection of Dhurandhar

Dhurandhar had a strong opening at the box office on its first day, earning Rs 27 crore. It outperformed Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda’s Saiyaara, which collected Rs 21.50 crore on its opening day. The film continued its impressive run on Day 2, quickly crossing the Rs 50 crore mark by the first Saturday after releasing in theatres on Friday, December 5.

Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, all part of what has been described as one of the most powerful ensembles of 2025. This backing by such a diverse and respected cast has helped Dhurandhar attract wide attention, across audiences that appreciate both star power and serious acting.
