From billboards to stickers on buses, everywhere we just see this one poster where a fully grown young woman (18 years old) is seen to have married a 10-year old boy. This strange and unusual poster is from Hindi television’s latest offering – Pehredaar Piya Ki – starring Tejaswi Prakash, Afaan Khan and Suyyash Rai in lead roles. The show will be broadcast on Sony TV. Also Read - Kangana Ranaut's Fans Troll Kishwer Merchant For 'Bullying' Her Over Not Wearing Face Mask, Latter Hits Out

Tejaswi, who shot to fame with her character Ragini in Colors’ show Swaragini, has been receiving flak ever since the promos of the upcoming show – Pehredaar Piya Ki – have been out. Going by the promos, one may come to a conclusion that Tejaswi would be seen romancing a 10-year-old child or Tejaswi to be the object of affection of a ten-year-old Prince. Since people assumed that the show has one of the aforesaid possibilities, they thought that Pehredaar Piya Ki is promoting and encouraging child marriage. In a statement to one of the leading portals, the actress cleared the air surrounding her upcoming show. She said that contrary to what viewers have grasped from the promos, the show doesn’t promote child marriage. (ALSO READ: Swaragini: Tejaswi Prakash Wayangankar aka Ragini to QUIT the show?) To all those who believe that the show is directed towards wrong teachings, Tejaswi responds and clarifies the tensions. She said, “Ethically and with sensitivity, I understand why people are feeling this as, of course, it’s wrong to get a 10-year-old kid married to an 18-year-old girl. But, in the show, we are not officially or legally married. As everybody knows, we CANNOT go to a court and get married literally.” Also Read - Kishwer Merchant Announces First Pregnancy at 40, Asks Women to Break Stereotypes - See Post

She further added, “It’s just the tradition and a practice that the backdrop in the show follows, where the kid and the girl marry each other by doing the pheras. The characters, Diya and Ratan have in fact not even understood that why has this marital union happened. We (as characters) don’t even know, what two people are supposed to do in a marriage. So, I assure one and all that this cannot come out WRONG as we think of each other as best of friends,” she signed off.

So now that we know what Pehredaar Piya Ki is all about, we just hope all the hullabaloo around the show and its concept is put to rest! The show will go on air from July 17.
