Popular actor Dileep arrested on conspiracy charges in connection with the Malayalam actress' abduction and molestation case

In a latest development to the Kerala actress kidnapping case, prominent Malayalam actor, Dileep was arrested today for allegedly plotting the abduction and sexual assault of the actress in February this year. In the previous week, the police had taken the actor and director, Nadirsha for questioning for 13 long hours in relation to the probe. Following this, the police had also raised the business premises of the actor’s wife, Kavya Madhavan.

The Malayalam film actress in question was kidnapped on February 18, 2017, for a while on her way from Thrissur to Kochi on February 18 Friday night by some people, who reportedly took pictures of her to blackmail her.

In a statement, the police said that Dileep was taken into custody during the morning hours of Monday while his arrest was documented only in the evening.  Reports indicate that the plotting behind the abduction was planned several years back and that the February incident was the second attempt in bringing the plan to fruition. In April, this year, the police reportedly, charge-sheeted the gang that had been hired to attack and temporarily abduct the actress. It was only during the last month that the police reopened the case behind the attack, after a letter written by the gang leader, Sunil Kumar alias Pulsar Suni to Dileep seeking financial aid was exposed. On the other hand, Dileep complained to the police that he was being blackmailed by the gang leader for money.

Throughout the probe, Dileep maintained that he was not involved in the attack of the actress. Dileep who is also a leading actor in the Malayalam film industry, was supported by The Association of Malayalam Movies Artists (AMMA) in his stand with respect to the case.
