Despite its phenomenal success, Allu Arjun's Pushpa 2: The Rule fell short of breaking few records, but has set some new ones.

Pushpa 2: released on December 05, 2024, has taken the box office by storm. The film grossed over Rs 280 crore worldwide on day one, dethroning SS Rajamouli’s RRR to claim the title of the highest-opening film in the history of Indian cinema. Starring Allu Arjun and Rashmika Mandanna, the sequel to 2021’s Pushpa: The Rise earned Rs 360 crore globally. It is on track to overtake its predecessor’s total collection within its opening weekend.

Garnering positive reviews overall, the massy actioner has shattered numerous records till now.

Records created by Pushpa 2: The Rule

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, Pushpa 2 has broken as many as 10 opening day box office records for Indian films

  • Puspha 2 broke RRR’s Rs 223 global gross record to become the biggest opener in the history of Indian cinema.
  • With Rs 175 crore in domestic earnings, Pushpa 2:The Rule surpassed RRR’s Rs 156 crore to claim the title of biggest opener in India.
  • It became the first Indian film to achieve over Rs 200 crore in gross revenue on its opening day.
  • The film also set a new milestone by grossing more than Rs 50 crore in two different languages on day one.
  • Pushpa 2: The Rule shattered the opening day record of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan in Hindi language, setting new benchmark in Indian’s cinema’s history.
  • The film also surpassed Kalki 2898 AD to claim the record for the biggest overseas debut ever by an Indian film.

Records missed by Pushpa 2: The Rule

However, despite its phenomenal success, Pushpa 2: The Rule fell short of breaking few records

  • In North America, Pushpa 2 has registered a smashing start, by garnering a huge $4.47 million on day 1 (inclusive of premieres). If we convert this to Indian rupees, it equals 37.85 crores. However, it did fell short of Baahubali 2’s $4.6 million (opening collection.
  • In the overseas market, Pushpa 2: The Rule earned $8.2 million (approx Rs 68 crore), unable to surpass Baahubali 2’s $10.25 million (Rs 85.18 crore) record.
  • In Tamil Nadu, Pushpa 2 recorded Rs 7.7 crore on its opening day but lagged behind Baahubali 2 (Rs 17 crore) and even KGF Chapter 2.
  • In Karnataka, the film managed Rs 17.25 crore on its first day but narrowly missed Baahubali’s Rs 17.45 crore record.
  • On BookMy Show, Pushpa 2 achieved 3 million tickets sold in advance bookings but could not match Baahubali 2’s 3.3 million pre-sales record.
