With the kind of amazing reviews that Ajay Devgn, Saurabh Shukla, Ileana D’Cruz starrer Raid fetched from critics, fans and celebs, this was expected. The film has opened to a massive Rs 10.04 crore on day 1 (India business), becoming the third highest opener of the year 2018 after Padmaavat and Padman. The film opened across 3,400 screen in India and while it saw a slow start in the morning, the film experienced increased footfalls in evenings shows.

Now, with the audience and critics review out there, and weekend upon us, the business is only set to sky rocket further. Talking about the film’s performance on day 1, trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared, “After an ordinary start in morning shows, Raid jumped post noon onwards. Evening ad night shows saw super growth. A double digit start for a non-masala, realistic film is heartening. Strong word of mouth should boost numbers on Saturday and Sunday,”

After an ordinary start in morning shows, #Raid jumped post noon onwards… Evening/night shows saw super growth… A double digit start for a non-masala, realistic film is heartening… Strong word of mouth should boost numbers on Sat and Sun… Fri ₹ 10.04 cr. India biz.

The film is directed by Raj Kumar Gupta and is based on a true incident about the longest raid conducted in Indian history. Comparing the opening day figures to the releases so far, Adarsh put Raid at number three, after Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Shahid Kapoor’s Padmaavat (Rs 19 crore) and Akshay Kumar’s Padman (Rs 10.26 crore).

Incidentally, Ajay Devgn hit a record in his career last year, when Golmaal Again reached a Rs 205 crore, making it his highest grossing film ever. But it was a franchise with an ensemble star cast while Raid is an out and out Ajay Devgn film. With the kind of opening the film has already received, we are sure that we are in for seeing some dhamaka at the box office with the weekend numbers.
