In the ever-evolving world of cinema, many films come and go, but there are a few films that resonate with the audience for years to come and its magic remains unmatched. One such example of this is the iconic sci-fi drama, Hrithik Roshan’s Koi Mil Gaya. This film showed a fresh story and for actor Rajat Bedi, it was a career-defining film. Although his role of antagonist became iconic, the film opened many new doors for him. Eventually, Rajat shifted base to Canada and built a new life, venturing into real estate.
In an conversation, Rajat had expressed his disappointment about being left out of Koi Mil Gaya’s promotional campaigns and feeling sidelined . Although, he clarified that there were no personal differences with filmmaker Rakesh Roshan.
Now,in a recent conversation, Rajat looked back on an incident from the film’s shoot. He said, “I wasn’t a mature actor back then, even when I was doing Koi Mil Gaya. There was this one scene that Rakesh ji wanted me to do, it was my scene. When I say that, I mean it was a scene between me and Duggu (Hrithik Roshan) where my lines could’ve overpowered his,” Rajat recalled.
He further added, “I did a few takes, and Rakesh ji suggested changes, asking me to try new ways of delivering my lines. Eventually, he okayed the shot, but that episode still hits me hard. Later, he told me, ‘Rajat, tujhe pata hai woh scene tera tha (Rajat, you know, that scene was yours)? You had to eat Duggu up in that scene! But you didn’t do that.’ I was heartbroken that day. I didn’t have the maturity to understand it then.”
Rajat revealed that life’s challenges, including a lack of work and personal struggles, have helped him evolve both as a person and as an actor. He believes those experiences made him emotionally stronger and more grounded. “Today, I can emote much better because I’ve lived through real ups and downs,” he shared.
Rajat recently made a comeback with The Bads of Bollywood, Aryan Khan’s directorial debut. In the show, he portrays the role of a forgotten actor struggling to rebuild his life after 15 years without work, something that strikes a chord with his personal life. He also credited Raghav Juyal for reigniting his passion for acting, saying that Raghav reminds him of the ever-charismatic Govinda.
