Speculations around Rajinikanth’s next with Mercury director Karthik Subbaraj have been proved true after all. Ever since the film was announced, there had been rumours that the film will also see Vijay Sethupathi in a key role. Now, it is confirmed that the Vikram Vedha actor has joined the cast of Rajinikanth – Karthik Subbaraj’s yet untitled flick. The announcement was made on Sun Pictures official social media handle on Twitter. This will be the first time that Vijay will share screen space with superstar Rajinikanth and this will be an absolute treat for fans. Will he play Rajinikanth’s main nemesis in the film is not yet known. Interestingly, Rajinikanth has some interesting actors playing baddies in his upcoming films. While Nana Patekar will be playing a negative role in the gangster saga Kaala Kaarikalan, Akshay Kumar will be playing the badass in 2.0 (Robot 2/Enthiran 2). This Rajinikanth film marks many firsts. It is the first time Rajini will be working with director Karthik Subbaraj, who is just five films old in the industry. This is the first time Vijay Sethupathi and Thalaiva will be sharing screen space and the first time that music composer Anirudh Ravichander will be scoring music for a Rajinikanth film. The yet untitled film will behind rolling soon and the title will be announced on the day the makers take the mahurat shot. Karthik Subbaraj had been busy promoting his film Mercury with Prabhu Deva all this while. It released worldwide on 13 April and on 20 April in Tamil Nadu post the TFPC strike was called off. Rajinikanth went for a special screening of the film and came back impressed.
