At a time when more and more actress across film industries are speaking up the ugly reality of casting couch, actress Rakul Preet has found herself at the other side of the fence. The actress recently made a statement that denying the existence of casting couch in the Telugu film industry (Tollywood). This hasn’t gone down well with a few actresses who have slammed Rakul for lying and trying to hide the cruel truth of how the industry functions. Actresses Sri Reddy and Madhavi Latha have called out Rakul for lying and painting a pretty picture of the industry. This happened at a Movie Artists Association (MAA) meet, which was arranged to condemn the ‘whore comment’ by a TV anchor, on a popular TV channel referred to actors as whores and brokers while debating about the state of affairs in Andhra Pradesh with actor-politician Posani Murali Krishna. To this, Rakul said that she never faced any such instance when she was asked for a sexual favor for a job. However, Madhavi Latha (Nacahvule fame) accused Rakul of lying and underlined how most actresses do not speak up about their experience of the casting couch since they are afraid of losing their jobs and putting their career’s in jeopardy. Sri Reddy (Aravind 2 fame) also reiterated that the Aiyaary actress should have spoken the truth and infact helped create awareness about casting couch to help the younger women who enter the film industry with hopes and aspirations. After the debate on the TV channel, Rakul had condemned the comment made by the anchor and said, as quoted News Minute, “It’s disgraceful. When I first saw the video, I didn’t believe it… whether something like this had happened on the channel or wondered if someone had sent a forward just to create controversy.”
She lashed out at the channel for doing something like that for mere TRPs and said, “Just imagine, from the actors’ point of view… my parents don’t know Telugu, but if they understood that news, what will they think? They’ll think this is the industry I’m working in.”
