Ramayan Comes Back on Doordarshan From Saturday at 9 am And 9 pm, Prakash Javadekar Confirms

Doordarshan brings back Ramayan in the prime slot from Saturday on popular demand during the lockdown. Information and Broadcasting Minister, Prakash Javadekar, confirms the news.

Information and Broadcasting Minister, Prakash Javadekar, on Friday, announced that Doordarshan will be telecasting Ramayan again. In his tweet that was made on Friday morning, he revealed that as India goes under lockdown for 21 days, the ministry has decided to re-run popular mythological show Ramayan, created by Ramanand Sagar, on Doordarshan from Saturday. The show will be aired at 9 pm in the morning and at the same time in the evening.

Javadekar’s Twitter post confirming the news read, “Happy to announce that on public demand, we are starting retelecast of ‘Ramayana’ from tomorrow, Saturday March 28 in DD National, One episode in morning 9 am to 10 am, another in the evening 9 pm to 10 pm.” (sic)

Shashi Shekhar, CEO of Prasar Bharti (Doordarshan and All India Radio), mentioned in a tweet that the team worked very hard with the Sagar family to bring back one of the most celebrated television series in these tough times. His tweet read, “A dedicated team of DD officers worked through the day yesterday and through the night to make this happen even as they stayed away from home and their families. Kudos to the entire team who worked on a war footing in response to immense demand from the viewers to watch the epic.”. His next tweet read, “Heartfelt thanks to the Sagar Family for this service to the Nation during this moment who took immense effort to mobilise their resources and made available content to Team @ddnational in Mumbai on a war footing.” (sic)

The iconic Doordarshan series featured Arun Govil as Lord Rama, Deepika Chikhalia as Sita, Arvind Trivedi as Ravana, Dara Singh as Hanuman, Sunil Lahri as Laxman, Lalita Pawar as Manthara, Padma Khanna Kaikeyi and Jayshree Gadkar as Kaushalya.

The viewers are also expecting other popular shows – Dekh Bhai Dekh, Khandaan and  Ye Jo Hai Zindagi among others to come back on Doordarshan. However, nothing official about the same is confirmed yet by the officials. Many channels have re-plugged their popular old shows as the shooting of the new and ongoing shows stand suspended amid the countrywide lockdown. Colors TV started telecasting Bigg Boss 13 again from Monday while Sony TV is relying on The Kapil Sharma Show.
