Ranbir Kapoor reveals Anushka Sharma rejected an actor who fell in love with her: ‘Uska Surname Bhi…’

Throwback! When Ranbir Kapoor revealed a surprising insight about Anushka Sharma that left the actress herself surprised.

Anushka Sharma and Ranbir Kapoor‘s comradeship was one of the highlights of Ae Dil Hai Mushkil promotions in 2016. In a candid chat with Mastii, the duo shared insights into their friendships and relationships. In a lighthearted moment, Ranbir revealed a surprising detail- Anushka is a ‘champion’ at friend-zoning people.

Ranbir didn’t stop there. He disclosed that one of Anushka’s actor friends had developed feelings for her, but she had friend-zoned him. During the conversation, the actor said, “Accha, iske saath mujhe pata hai, jo acchi dosti dosti mein unko isse pyaar ho gaya hai. Aur unhone [Anushka] bola ki, ‘Nahi yaar, aisa kuch nahi, main dost hee hoon (Well, I know someone who, while being good friends, fell in love with her. But she [Anushka] told him, ‘No, it’s nothing like that, we’re just friends)’.” He added, “Main sirf yeh bolunga ke uska bhi surname Kapoor hai (I’ll just say this — his surname is also Kapoor).”

The revelation quickly caught Anushka surprised, but she quickly explained her perspective. The actress said, “Main na army background se aati hoon actually. Toh kya hai ke hum log… Meri aisa hi nahi thi ki meri ladkiya hi friends thi. Hum log kitchen sets ke saath khelte the sirf aisa nahi tha. Toh hum log matlab… ladhko ke saath bhi khelte the (I actually come from an army background. So, the thing is, it wasn’t like I only had girlfriends. It wasn’t just about playing with kitchen sets. We also used to play with the boys).”

On the personal front, Ranbir Kapoor is married to actress Alia Bhatt and they have a daughter, Raha Kapoor. Meanwhile, Anushka Sharma married Indian cricketer Virat Kohli. The couple welcomed their daughter, Vamika in January 2021, and son Akaay Kohli, in February 2024. The couple has been enjoying parenthood primarily in London, while maintaining a private life.
