Director Abhinav Kashyap, best known for films like Dabangg and Besharam, has once again grabbed headlines for his explosive interview. In addition to sharing shocking revelations about Salman Khan and Arbaz Khan, he has now spilled some interesting tea about Ranbir Kapoor.
Ranbir Kapoor wanted Katrina Kaif in Besharam
According to him, Ranbir Kapoor, with whom he collaborated with in Besharam, repeatedly urged him to cast his then-girlfriend, widely believed to be Katrina Kaif, in the lead role. In an interview with Bollywood Thikana, Abhinav Kashyap revealed that he wasn’t in the favour of casting Katrina as he wanted a Punjabi girl from Delhi and felt she might not be able to pull it off.
Kashyap recalled, “Katrina once came and met me also. I was recording a song at Yash Raj, and she came up to me and said, ‘You have a problem with me?’ I said I have no problems. I told her that the day I have a script that requires an NRI character, I would come to her first.”
Ranbir Kapoor was ‘uncomfortable’ working with Sonakshi Sinha
Abhinav also recounted that several actresses including Taapsee Pannu, Swara Bhasker, Tamannaah Bhatia, and Parineeti Chopra had auditioned for the role, but he wanted Sonakshi Sinha as the two had already worked together in Dabangg. But, according to him, Ranbir wasn’t comfortable working with her and kept urging to take Katrina as the female lead, which he had said no to several times. The role then eventually went to Pallavi Sharda.

“I had considered casting Sonakshi for the role, but Ranbir was very clear — he said, ‘Not Sonakshi, I’m not comfortable.’ Only he knows what the issue was,” Kashyap shared.
Made on a budget of Rs 83 crore, Besharam failed to perform in India, grossing around Rs 77 crore. Despite its star-studded cast and high expectations, the film underperformed and deemed as a box office failure. Along with Kapoor and Sharda, veteran actors Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor, also featured in the film.
