Actor Rani Mukerji has turned 42 on Saturday, March 21. A stunning diva and a talented actor, Rani has proved her mettle in Bollywood by impressing the audience with her performance in her debut film itself. However, it was after she appeared in Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai as Tina that she tasted an unfathomable success that never then went back. But not many know that this film also changed Rani’s life at a personal level. It was Aditya Chopra (now Rani’s husband) who recommended her name to Karan Johar for the role of Tina. Rani and Aditya are married for six years now but little did they know that their professional bonding will make them one of the most sought after couples of the film industry later. It was almost love-at-first-sight for Aditya when he saw a glimpse of Rani’s performance in Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat. He himself didn’t know about it though. Later, when KJo was searching for the second female lead of his film, Aditya asked him to watch Rani’s performance in her debut film and sign her for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. The director first couldn’t believe that a young Rani, with her short height (which was not considered acceptable in the film industry), husky voice and a little experience could play a glamorous character like Tina. However, upon Adi’s recommendation, he met Rani and was blown away by her performance. What that talented short-heighted girl did in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai is a history. There began a friendship that resulted in bondings for life. Rani, Karan, Aditya, Shah Rukh Khan, and Kajol became close friends and still share a great relationship. Even though Aditya seemed impressed with Rani’s talent, he had not developed any feelings for the actor. In 2001, he married Payal Khanna in a private wedding ceremony. The marriage couldn’t work and the couple got divorced in the year 2009. After this, Aditya fell for Rani and the couple started dating each other. Rani went on to star in many YRF dramas. However, none of them was directed by Aditya Chopra. In fact, Adi has not directed Rani in any film yet. He though produced many films starring her under his home banner Yash Raj Films between 2001 to 2014. Mujhse Dosti Karoge! (2002), Hum Tum (2004), Veer-Zaara (2004), Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Ta Ra Rum Pum (2007), Laaga Chunari Mein Daag (2007), Dil Bole Hadippa! (2009), Mardaani (2014) and Mardaani 2 (2019) are a few YRF dramas that featured Rani and were produced by Aditya. Five years after his divorce, Aditya and Rani decided to get married. Before this, however, Rani had become a close part of the Yash Raj family. She was seen at their family functions, at Diwali events and with Aditya’s mother Pamela Chopra. Rani’s relationship with Aditya was no more a secret. But, keeping their decisions of not coming out in the media intact, the couple got married in a private wedding ceremony in Italy without letting anyone know except a few close friends and family members. It was quite a secret wedding and no pictures from the same surfaced on the internet. To this date, there’s no glimpse of Rani’s actual wedding look or any picture in which she can be seen posing with her husband. That’s how guarded Aditya has always been.
Aditya is known to be an extremely private person. He doesn’t attend events, goes out with family or parties out with friends. He doesn’t even get clicked with Rani. So when the wedding took place in 2014, there was actually a dearth of Aditya’s photos and the media had to report with years old grainy pictures of Aditya.
The couple was all settled in their married life and welcomed a baby girl in 2015. YRF released a long statement announcing the birth of Adira Chopra who was named combining the initials of both her parents – Adi and Ra. The couple is equally guarded about Adira’s pictures coming out in the media. As is, Rani is always full of lovely stories of her husband and daughter. That speaks volumes of the love and bonding in the family. Aditya and Rani have created their own paradise away from the media galore and we just wish there’s only love blossoming in that paradise! Happy birthday, Rani!
