Ranveer Singh, who is one of the leads in Sanjay Leela Bhansali starrer ‘Padmaavat’ alongside Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, leaves no stone unturned to surprise us with the roles, that we have never seen him play on-screen before, with each film. For those who have watched the film obviously know that the actor is essaying the role of a bisexual in the shoes of Alauddin Khilji in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus; Ranveer is not only attracted towards Rani Padmaavat (essayed by Deepika) but also towards his slave-general, Malik Kafur in the film. Well, it is not an easy task to pull off a badass role that demands the actor to be a bisexual, especially when it’s a hero, who is playing the role of a villain and bisexual, as there are high chances of the audience might not liking it. But for someone like Ranveer Singh, who can pull off a skirt, a psychedelic print and a Rajasthani kurta on the red carpet and still manages to steal the show, can definitely pull off any character and nail it. However, it seems that actor was apprehensive about taking up the role. Also Read - Can You Guess the Price of Mira Rajput’s Boho Style Vintage Kutchi Embroidered Top?

While talking to Mid-day, the actor said, “I was apprehensive about taking up the role as it was a big risk. Sanjay Sir [Bhansali, director] laid out the cards right at the start and told me that my character is bisexual, so I could make an informed choice. I think the bisexuality added another layer to Khilji’s complex personality; it was a complete dismantling of a traditional moral compass. But, this is a profession where taking big risks defines people.” Also Read - Kangana Ranaut Takes a Sly Dig at Deepika Padukone on World Mental Health Day, Promotes Her Film Judgementall Hai Kya

Interestingly, Padmaavat has become Ranveer’s highest opening day grosser by surpassing the collections of his all earlier releases like Gunday, Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela, among others. The actor further told the daily, “People I look up to —Johnny Depp, Daniel Day Lewis and Steve Jobs – they are all mavericks and I find myself drawn to their spirit. I wanted to do something ba**sy because that’s me. No one around me wanted me to play this character. The Indian audiences love the actor when they love the character. So, my act of Khilji – a bad guy who is bisexual – could’ve gone horribly wrong. People could’ve hated me. After much deliberation, I was up for it only because I knew it would be a fulfilling process.” ALSO READ: Padmaavat Box Office Collection Day 3: Deepika Padukone – Ranveer Singh’s Continues To Rule The Roost, Earns Rs 83 Crore

On the professional front, Ranveer will be next seen in Zoya Akhtar’s next, ‘Gully Boy’. The actor has quite a few films in his kitty; Ranveer Singh will soon start working on Rohit Shetty’s ‘Simmba’ and Kabir Khan’s ‘83’. While ‘Simmba’ could be a spin-off of Shetty’s ‘Singham’, 83 is a film about India’s 1983 World Cup victory with Ranveer playing Kapil Dev.
