Not many moons ago many cinephiles, especially the Bollywood enthusiasts as indeed the trade pundits twitched their noses if somebody happened to put Ranveer Singh in the same category as that of Ranbir Kapoor. The Kapoor lad, given his lineage (that of the first family of Bollywood) coupled with his promising acting chops enjoyed the position of privilege and privy. He showcased his might with films such as Barfi, Rajneeti and Rockstar. Ranveer on the other hand was gaining grounds but looked largely frivolous and totally filmy. ALSO READ: OOPS! The way Singh dude projected himself (or the way he is maybe) made many think inntheir over-judging head that this young dude is not exactly taking himself or the carft…dare we say seriously. His Band Baaja Baaraat or Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl might have been success but those film did not exactly cement his repute as a serious actor. Ranbir, on the other hand, seemed far more mature, versatile and very seasoned. Mentioninge Ranbir and Ranveer in the same name, therefore, was a strict no-no among the elite filmy clique. Raw, seemingly raunchy and definitely rambunctious Ranveer then showcased his presence as indeed his poise (and the proverbial thehraav) as an actor with Lootera. And as the blazing Bajirao in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus Bajirao Mastani, Ranveer took his standing to another planet altogether. Not only critics started applauding his discipline but even the biggest brands started taking Ranveer quite seriously-naturally both money and repute followed in tonnes. Ranboo, on the other hand, kept sinking low with a string of flops that tanked at BO, almost pushing him in the zone of oblivion. It is not fair to write the man off yet as he has jagga jasoos in his hands and given Ranboo’s acting talent and his popularity he can bounce back like Phoenix from the ashes.
But the razzmatazz scene clearly shows Ranveer in the forefront. From the billboards to magazine covers and from ad commercials to award functions-Ranveer is omnipresent and possible omnipotent.
The saga became sadder for Ranbir ever since he was in a relationship with Katrina Kaif. Their separation spelled the doom even blatantly. Ranveer, on the other hand, looked fun and warm innthe steady company of Ranbir’s ex-girlfriend Deepika Padukone.
It is unfortunate that some blame Katrina for Ranbir’s setback but one must blame the Kapoor dude too for the choices he made both on the personal as well as professional front.
Finally, it does not take long in showbiz–as indeed in life–for the tide to turn. A focused Ranbir Kapoor is a dangerous proposition for he can turn the table like only he can. Till then let Ranveer bask in the glory only to shine brighter perhaps!
