Renowned Urdu poet Nida Fazli dies at 78; several Bollywood lyrics were inked by him

Mumbai, Feb 8: Renowned Urdu poet and Bollywood lyricist Nida Fazli passed away on Monday. He breathed his last in Mumbai at 11:30 AM. Fazli was suffering from various illness arising out of aging issues. The revered ghazal writer was 78 years old upon his death.

His passing away comes as a shock for the artist fraternity in the city which was already taken back by the untimely death of cartoonist Sudhir Tailang on Saturday. (ALSO READ: Renowned cartoonist Sudhir Tailang dies of brain cancer in Gurgaon)

Fazli had an elaborated career stretching for nearly four decades of public life. Initially he began writing for entertainment magazine Blitz. Impressed by his use of colloquial language and elegant, yet understandable words several directors approached him to compose lyrics for their upcoming projects. Some of his famous mainstream writings include: ‘Duniya jise kehte hain jaadu kaa Khilona’, Aa bhi jaa’, ‘Tu is tarah se meri zindagi mein’ and Hosh waalon ko khabar Kya’.

As a poet, Fazli was inspired by the expression of Mirza and Ghalib and the writing style of Meera and Kabir. He also imbibed western influences by carefully scrutinizing the works of Gogol, Anton Chekhov and Takasaki.
