Republic Day is around the corner. More than 60 years ago, our freedom fighters laid down their lives for a better country for the future generations. And we have always found numerous ways to thank them for their sacrifices. So has Bollywood, which has never stopped short of going the extra mile to showcase patriotism in Hindi films. Apart from directing movies about wars and freedom fighters, filmmakers have picked rather unconventional methods to show patriotism and have succeeded in leaving us with goosebumps and making us feel proud of our country.
This article is about all those epic scenes/moments from Hindi films watching which has made us beam with pride that we are Indians. Bollywood has done a brilliant job of capturing the struggle to attain freedom and the patriotic spirit and national pride our forefathers passed down to us. While it was very tough to pick just five such patriotic scenes from the scores of amazing movies made, I tried my best to do justice to all the awesome films out there!
1. When the Indian Women’s Hockey team wins the final– Chak de India
Possibly one of the best works of Shah Rukh Khan till date, this movie was not all about SRK, though. Sixteen girls came together to give us one hell of a movie. A low budget film, a de-glam SRK, 16 completely unknown girls, a not-so-followed sport and yet the movie went on to become a pathbreaking film. Remember that scene when India stops the last goal from seven time world champion, and at that moment, time stopped for us. The icing on the cake was SRK’s expression. Years later when we watch the movie even now, the feelings haven’t changed much.

2. When a group of friends lay down their lives to fight corruption– Rang de Basanti
What can truly be defined as the movie of the generation, we can never get enough of this one. A movie whose first half we all could relate with- a bunch of Delhi University students and yet they do something so brave, that it shook an entire generation. Killing a corrupted minister to avenge the death of their friend, knowing very well what the consequences would be, and then laying down their lives with a smile. Admit it, we all have shed tears in this scene.

3. When Naseeruddin Shah showed the plight of the common man– A Wednesday
SRK in Chennai Express made ‘common man’ quite the phenomenon. But years ago, Naseeruddin Shah made a speech that none of us could forget. For the ones who have not watched the movie yet, do not waste a second more and catch it. Shah’s final call to the commissioner of Mumbai police, Anupam Kher, forms a moving speech about the plight of innocent common Indian citizens who die everyday in trains and markets at the hands of terrorism and the indifference of our government.

4. When Akshay Kumar made us all feel proud of being Indians – Namastey London
This scene single handedly canbe termed as a revenge from the Britishers. The scene stands out because it gives you a rush of patriotism as Akshay narrates the greatness of India as a nation, maintaining a humble smile on his face throughout, just the one we too had on our faces during the scene.

5. That one point when the movie turns to a serious plot– Rang de Basanti
Because this movie truly deserves another spot in this article. From a fun first half to a more serious second half, this scene, we believe, was the transformation. This is one scene where the complete star cast sits together to chill but ends up in a much more serious conversation and though it has a fun end, little did we know what was coming ahead.

And I’m already getting the goosebumps. Without saying much, here wishing my country a Happy Republic Day!
