After filing Rs 50 crore defamation lawsuit, Rupali Ganguly has now filed a criminal defamation complaint against her stepdaughter Esha Verma, as confirmed by her lawyer.

Rupali Ganguly has taken a decisive action in her ongoing dispute with her stepdaughter Esha Verma by filing a criminal defamation case against her. This move comes after she already filed a Rs 50 crore defamation lawsuit in the Bombay High Court. Rupali’s lawyer Sana Raees Khan, confirmed that they are pushing both civil and criminal remedies, after the Anupamaa actress’s stepdaughter Esha made serious allegations against her.

Confirming the news, Sana said, “Yes, we have filed a criminal defamation complaint following the civil one. Both remedies, civil and criminal, are being pursued. No individual should endure the trauma of public defamation without consequences for the perpetrator. This case underscores that justice is a shield against malicious attempts to harm one’s reputation.”

Rupali Ganguly vs Esha Verma’s controversy

The controversy began when Esha accused Rupali of having affair with her father, Ashish K.Verma, while she was still married to Esha’s mother, Sapna. Esha also claimed that Rupali was the cause of her parents’ separation, took her mother’s jewellery and issued threats. These allegations made in interviews and on social media, prompted Rupali to take the step of filing initial defamation lawsuit. In her notice, Rupali asserted that Esha’s actions had affected her reputation and adversely affected her career, causing significant financial losses. She also demanded a public apology for dragging her younger son into the matter and warned of further legal action if Esha failed to adhere.

The Bombay High Court recently provided Rupali with temporary protection, baring Esha from posting defamatory content about her. Following this Esha, removed all posts related to Rupali from her social media and made her Instagram account private. Rupali’s lawyer considers this a victory, stating that baseless allegations forced Esha to take such drastic steps like closing her account.
