Yesteryear actress Sadhana Shivdasani, better known as just Sadhana, passed away on December 25, Christmas Day, at Raheja Hospital in Mumbai. (Mid-Day reports that she died at home.) The actress was 74 and was suffering from cancer. She known for her wonderful lead role portrayals in several movies. Belonging to the black and white era, she successfully moved to Eastman colour films. Sadhana worked with very popular heroes such as Dev Anand and many others. She was the sister of actress Babita. Bollywood director Karan Johar tweeted condolences, saying, “RIP Sadhana aunty…Your legacy of beauty,poise and utmost grace….will live on forever…”. Actor-filmmaker Aamir Khan said, “A sad day for Indian Cinema. Rest in peace Sadhanaji. Thank you for entertaining us with your talent, your beauty, your grace, and your energy. We will always remember you as one of the finest actors of India. I am one of your biggest fans and I always will be as long as I live. Love and respect always. Film critic Rajeev Masand also tweeted, “Yesteryear star Sadhana passes away. RIP. She inspired the famous Sadhana cut hairstyle, and was such a charming actress.” India Today Consulting Editor Rajdeep Sardesai, “Sadhana was perhaps the first actress to have a hairstyle named after her. Her ‘saya’ lives on! RIP”.
Film critic and trade expert Taran Adarsh said, “RIP Sadhana ji. One of the finest actresses to grace the Indian screen. Will be missed. #Sadhana”. Singer Shibani Kashyap said, “RIP the legendary actress #Sadhana u r unforgettable!”
Actress Anushka Sharma tweeted her tribute with Sadhana’s song, saying, “Lag jaa gale ki phir ye haseen raat ho na ho ….. RIP Sadhna”. Cricket star Rahul Dravid also remembered Sadhana, saying, “Sad to know about the demise of #Sadhana ji. A top actress of yesteryears who personified beauty and grace. #RIP”.
Veteran playback singer Lata Mangeshkar, who had lent her voice to Sadhana in many movies, tweeted in Hindi, “Mujhe abhi pata chala ki meri pasandida abhinetri Sadhana ji ka aaj swargwas hua. Ye sunke mujhe bahut dukh hua. Sadhana ji ek bahut badi kalakar thi. Ishwar unki aatma ko shanti de.”

Sadhana made her haircut with fringes or bangs famous as the ‘Sadhana cut’ in India, which is popular till date. She will be remembered for her memorable roles and beautiful songs such as Tera Mera Pyar Amar, Mere Mehboob, Jhumka Gira Re, Naina Barse Rim Zim, Lag Ja Gale, Tujhe Jeevan Ki Dor Se, Bedardi Balma, Aage Bhi Jaane Na Tu and Abhi Na Jao Chhodkar, among many others.
