Saif Ali Khan may be stripped of Padma Shri honour

Saif Ali Khan is about lose the Padma Shri honour, which he was awarded with by the Government of India in 2010 for his contribution to art. The government is scrutinising a demand to strip the actor of his honour, framed by a Mumbai court. This was after a complaint was filed against Saif by RTI activist S C Agrawal.

The background of the case goes back to 2012. After an alleged brawl in a restaurant in South Mumbai, charges were framed against Saif Ali Khan and his two friends, Shakeel Ladak and Bilal Amrohi. Saif and his pals were accused of allegedly punching the nose of a South African businessman and his father-in-law at a Colaba restaurant. They were charged under Section 325 (assault) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code.

Agrawal filed a petition with the government on March 14, 2014, demanding the Nawab of Pataudi be stripped of his national honour. Agrawal who waited for four months for a reply has finally received a response. The Home Ministry has replied to the RTI application saying that “the matter is under examination”.
