Salman Khan’s 1998 Arms Act case was scheduled for a hearing this week. However, the verdict was further delayed after Justice Vijay Vishnoi of the Rajasthan High Court refused to give a judgement in this case. Salman is facing charges for hunting two black bucks with unlicensed weapons at Kankani Village, located on the outskirts of Jodhpur. A judge recuses himself from a case only when they feel that presiding the case would lead to any potential conflict of interest or partiality. Justice Vishnoi has asked Chief Justice Sunil Ambwani to present the case before another bench. Hence the case will now be assigned to another judge. Besides, Justice Vishnoi belongs to the Vishnoi community of Rajasthan, who consider black bucks as a sacred animal. The animal is also protected under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972 and is categorized in the IUCN red list under ‘near threatened’ species. The actor was shooting for his film Hum Saath Saath Hai, when he was booked for attacking the endangered animal. Salman Khan had an expired license of the weapon and was hence booked.
A Jodhpur court had rejected the Bollywood star’s revision petition, which seeked permission to call five prosecution witnesses in the case, last week.
