Salman Khan House Firing Case: Actor Seeks Name Removal from Accused Anuj Thapan’s Death Case
Salman Khan’s lawyer, advocate Aabad Ponda, requested the removal of the actor's name as a respondent in the plea, arguing that the petitioner has not made any allegations against him.
Salman Khan made headlines when two men opened fire outside his home Galaxy apartment in Mumbai. Now, in a recent development in the case, Salman has requested the removal of his name from the death case of accused Anuj Thapan. A petition was filed by the actor in the Bombay High Court demanding that his name should removed from the plea filed by the mother of one of the accused, who died by suicide.
Khan’s lawyer, advocate Aabad Ponda, requested the removal of the actor’s name as a respondent in the plea, arguing that the petitioner has not made any allegations against him. Lawyer Ponda said, “In fact, the actor is the victim here…an attempt was made to attack him and his house…he does not know the reason behind the attacks. Who is behind it and who has been arrested…naming him as an accused is sending a wrong message and is damaging his reputation.”
The actor’s lawyer added that the plea is making damage to Salman’s reputation. Meanwhile, police claimed that Thapan attempted suicide. However, the accused’s mother alleged irregularities in the petition and claimed that he was murdered. The bench was hearing a petition filed by Rita Devi, the mother of Anuj Thapan, who died on May 1 in the police station’s restroom.
Meanwhile, Justices NR Borkar and Somasekhar Sundaresan expressed dissatisfaction with the ‘incomplete‘ autopsy report of Thapan and questioned the prosecution. The court observed that the report indicated asphyxiation as the cause of death but lacked crucial details, such as a diagram of the ligature mark on his neck and information on any other injuries on the body.
“Where is the diagram of the ligature mark? Is the ligature mark oblique in shape or round? Death by asphyxiation can also be because of strangling. It need not be because of hanging only,” the bench asked.
The court highlighted the missing details and said, “This is not a complete post-mortem report. It is incomplete.” The incident of firing at Salman Khan’s house took place on April 14, 2024.
