The trailer of Padmavati, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus, finally released today and it is impressive to say the least. Right from the breathtaking visuals to the royal avatars of the leads – Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh, Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji, to the sheer grandiose of the entire period film, Padmavati has ‘hit’ written all over it.

The film has fans in frenzy and epitomizes the adage ‘der aaye durust aaye’. The consistent delay in the release of the film hasn’t dampened the excitement to see it come alive on the big screen. There are a lot of factors that have fueled this anticipation.

For instance, the coming together of Shahid – Deepika for the first time; Ranveer’s first anti-hero role; Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period film; the thrilling experience that audience may want to relive post Baahubali earlier this year. The interest amongst cine goers to watch Padmavati is just going to reach a new high as we near its release on 1 December, 2017.

In fact, industry is abuzz that Padmavati might just help Bollywood redeem itself before the so far disappointing year 2017 ends. There is positive hope from the film to break some box office records and make new ones. So far, the Hindi film industry has seen only four films become superhits (Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Hindi Medium, Toilet Ek Prem Katha, Judwaa 2).

But this is a cause of concern for Salman Khan, who’s Tiger Zinda Hai releases the same month as Padmavati. After Tubelight turned out to be a washout at the box office upon its release in June this year, Salman and his fans have hopes hitched to the stars with the action thriller. But from the looks of it, Padmavati is all set to make things a little difficult for Salman Khan and his leading lady, Katrina Kaif.

While Bollywood box office hasn’t been able to achieve any figures that are unattainable, Padmavati might just change that, giving Salman Khan a fresh challenge. But we know that Salman doesn’t care about BO numbers and a true-blue bhai film (which Tubelight was not) never fails to get fans to the theatres.

But it will be interesting to see how Padmavati fares at the box office and then see Tiger Zinda Hai outdo it and many others that we have seen this year. Here’s to good times ahead at the movies!
