Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt rejected this film, it became blockbuster, made career of a flop actor, the film is..., lead actor was...
When we think of Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt, their high-octane action roles from the 1990s and 2000s come to mind. During their prime, they delivered several action-packed movies. Even today, both continue to star in movies at a remarkable pace, showing no signs of slowing down. For instance in 1991, Khan and Dutt appeared together in a romantic drama Saajan which became a major hit. Their on-screen chemistry was widely appreciated, and the film remains a classic in Hindi cinema.
However, there is one role that both actors rejected and it later became a blockbuster. The film helped the lead actor in breaking his chain of flops and emerging as one of the leading stars in Bollywood. We are talking about the 2004-released Dhoom.
Do you know Salman Khan and Sanjay Dutt were first choices for Aditya Chopra’s Dhoom?
The action thriller was directed by late Sanjay Gadhvi and produced by Aditya Chopra under the Yash Raj Films Banner. Reportedly, Salman Khan was approached to play the antagonist Kabir in Dhoom, but he rejected it due to unknown reasons. Same was the case with Sanjay Dutt, who rejected the role, which later landed in John Abraham’s kitty. John was finalised to play the negative lead in Dhoom, which fortunately became a turning-point in his career. His classy portrayal of Kabir is considered one of the best performances of his career. Apart from John, the film also features Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra, Esha Deol and Rimi Sen.
Made in a reported budget of Rs 11 crore, Dhoom earned over Rs 70 crore worldwide. It became one of the highest-grossing films of 2004.
